Currently, we are seeking to fill immediate and future positions for the following programs:
Lead Primary Guide (Ages 3–6)
Position Type: Full-Time
Start Date: 2026–2027 School Year (or as negotiated)
Position Summary
Secret Garden Montessori is seeking a Lead Primary Guide to lead a mixed-age Primary (3–6) classroom. The Lead Guide exercises professional discretion and independent judgment to prepare and maintain an engaging Montessori environment that nurtures each child’s academic, social, emotional, and physical development. The ideal candidate is dependable, professional, warm-hearted, and deeply committed to Montessori practice. This role requires curiosity, observation, flexibility, and joy in working closely with young children, families, and a collaborative staff.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Bachelor’s degree in Education (required)

Montessori Primary (3–6) diploma from AMI or AMS (required or nearing completion)

Experience and demonstrated success working with children ages 3–6

A strong passion for Montessori philosophy and the ability to thoughtfully share the Montessori method with parents and the wider community

Warmth of spirit, patience, and benevolence toward children, families, and colleagues

Physical ability to sit on the floor, move easily throughout the classroom, and engage actively with children

Willingness and ability to take walks and spend time outdoors with children
Responsibilities:
Classroom Leadership & Prepared Environment
-
Lead a Primary classroom with professionalism, independence, and care
-
Design, refine, and maintain a beautiful, orderly Montessori prepared environment
-
Create and adapt classroom materials and activities to meet the evolving needs of the children
-
Foster a safe, joyful, calm, and respectful classroom culture
Montessori Instruction & Observation
-
Give sequential Montessori presentations aligned with AMI/AMS methodology and each child’s developmental readiness
-
Carefully observe children to understand their strengths, needs, and challenges
-
Track and document individual child progress through observation and recordkeeping
-
Support independence, concentration, self-regulation, and community responsibility
Collaboration & Supervision

Directly supervise and collaborate with classroom assistants and available substitutes
-
Participate in peer observations with other faculty (both observing and being observed)

Engage in staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with the Head of School, and school planning activities
Family Communication & Community Engagement
-
Communicate with parents professionally through email, conversation, and documentation
-
Conduct parent-teacher conferences twice per year
-
Hold additional one-on-one meetings with parents as needed to support individual children

Write monthly classroom newsletters during the school year

Participate in Parent Education events

Support outreach and community-building events such as open houses, seasonal celebrations, and school gatherings
Additional Responsibilities

Contribute to administrative tasks that support the school’s academic and community programs

Model grace, courtesy, and professionalism in all aspects of school life
Compensation & Benefits

Substitutes
Our goal is to sustain a consistent group of substitutes who exude leadership and flexibility. This position calls for service-minded individuals who enjoy working with young children (18 months-6 years), and supporting the teachers and classroom environment. A quiet and calm demeanor and professional appearance are a must. Background check required. Substitute schedules vary but are typically either 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM or 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM on any given day. Competitive hourly salary.
